Not more than seventy nine miles from off the African coast lies the Canary islands most easterly island that of Lanzarote. Dimensionally it is thirty seven by twelve miles (or 60 km by 20 km for younger readers) the fourth largest among all seven islands. The climate is said to be mild and dry and the temperatures range between twenty one to twenty nine degrees during the daylight hours, between January and August. A perfect destination no matter what time of the year with no more than a hundred and forty millimetres of rain annually. Throw in some cheap Lanzarote holidays and you are well on your way to warming up during the cold period here at home. From the eighteenth and nineteenth century volcanic eruptions you see what appears to be some lunar landscape which provided a perfect background for a Star Wars movie. But strange as it may seem, the ensuing lava ash covering actually benefited the underlying soil by retaining moisture that would otherwise evaporate off. As a result of this the natives are able to grow things that were hardly possible before those events.

There are however several nice and clean white sand beaches at Papagayo as well as Playa Blanca. Apart from one hotel, local building regulations limit the height of buildings on the island helping to retain its natural look. There is no shortage of accommodation there either with apartments, bungalows, hotels and villas available to stay in. Car hire also is there for you and is the ideal way to travel around and see the island for yourself, hopping too at playa blanca. Fiestas, parades and carnivals also are some things to watch out for if you like that kind of thing, but if you would rather relax on the beach and in the sunshine, then that is no problem either. So search out those cheap Lanzarote holidays and have some fun!
